Underrated Ghost Stories And Mythical Creatures All Over The World: Eighteenth Stop – Singapore

Singapore is known for being a clean city and the famous Marina Bay Skyline. To locals, however, it’s not just about the greenery, the ban on chewing gum, and corporal punishment to those who do not obey the laws – Singapore is so much more because they have this one place that is regarded as the most haunted place in the country.

The Old Changi Hospital is a former hospital located in Changi, Singapore. It was built back in 1935 and was operational until 1997.

History of Old Changi Hospital

The Old Changi Hospital was originally built in order to be part of the old Changi military base in order to serve the British Royal Air Force. The British Royal Air Force withdrew after Singapore was occupied by the Japanese sometime in 1942. The military base was then used by the Japanese Secret Police as a prison and torture camp for both Singaporean and British soldiers and anyone who was considered as anti-Japanese.

Just by knowing this fact, it may be inferred that the restless souls roaming around the Old Changi Hospital are those who died and suffered from the hands of these Japanese police officers. Allegedly, the Japanese Secret Police even impaled the heads of their executed prisoners on iron stakes outside the Old Changi Hospital and other public buildings.

Going back to the history, after the war ended and Singapore reclaimed their independence in 1965, the hospital served the Commonwealth armed forces of Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. By 1997, the building was abandoned and the services that the Old Changi Hospital once offered were all transferred to the new Changi General Hospital.

The Old Changi Hospital was then purchased by a company in order to convert it to a luxury resort. The production, however, was never completed. Some said it was due to a financial incapacity of the company that bought it. Others, however, believe that it was because of the paranormal activities in the area.

Paranormal Experiences At Old Changi Hospital

Many people who have gone to Old Changi Hospital reported that they saw shadows even if the hallways were empty. The scariest thing about this is that these supposed shadows are seen by thrill-seekers even during broad daylight.

Also, many claimed that they heard disembodied screams and these screams have been heard in different wards and areas all over the Old Changi Hospital. The screams might belong to those who were killed during the war or the patients who died at the Old Changi Hospital.

Other apparitions pertain to bloody soldiers walking down the halls and that a young boy is seen in the hospital just sitting then stares at whoever sees him.

One Paranormal Experience That Has Been Of Common Occurrence To Groups Visiting The Old Changi Hospital

One of the creepier paranormal experiences is about groups who visit the Old Changi Hospital. According to these groups, while they are exploring the hospital, one of their members suddenly disappear. They then try to look for that one member and upon discovery, they are frequently found at a far, dark, and lonely area of the hospital or are already out of the hospital. The member is disoriented and tells the other members of the group a familiar story.

The story that is usually told by these missing members claim that one person, whom they believed was their friend, led them away from the group and that person said they do not belong at the hospital. That person also warns the member to tell his or her friends it is dangerous at the Old Changi Hospital and that they should never return.
