Underrated Ghost Stories And Mythical Creatures All Over The World: Thirty-seventh Stop – Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Vietnam, a Southeast Asian country, is known as the land of the Ascending Dragon because of how it looks like in the world map. There are amazing beaches, Buddhist pagodas, busy city life, and well-preserved tradition in some parts of the country.

Vietnam is also known for its pho, which is traditional Vietnamese noodle soup, and pork rolls.

Aside from the touristy spots and the great food, Vietnam, just like any other country in the world, has a ghost story of its own. It’s actually unconventional because the story is about a young man who was murdered at a park. The man’s ghost reportedly roams around the park, which is a tourist spot full of life in the morning but allegedly ghostly when the night comes.

What Tao Dan Park Offers

The park is called Tao Dan Park – a 10-hectare park that many people visit for exercise, strolls, or swimming at the pool. It is located at Ho Chi Minh’s District 1. It’s very different from the city life in Ho Chi Minh which is noisy and full of traffic jams.

The best time to go to Tao Dan Park is early in the morning because locals also go there to practice their tai chi. Others go there to visit the Buddhist temple and it’s a nice place to know more about the culture of Vietnam. Some citizens also go there with their birds and they practice beautiful bird songs.

Tourists and locals usually visit Tao Dan Park in the morning and sometimes in the afternoon. At night, however, it’s a place to stay away from because it is said to be unsafe and ghostly.

What Locals Are Saying About Tao Dan Park

Is it just an urban legend or is it a true story? Locals say that a man was killed at the park while with the woman he loves. Accordingly, the young man’s ghost still wanders around the park while looking for the love of his life.

The man was said to be killed more than 10 years ago. While he and the woman he loves were at the park, they were attacked. The man was murdered while the woman was assaulted. Allegedly, the young man returns to the park every now and then because he wanted to rescue his girlfriend. Some said that the woman was repeatedly raped by the perpetrators.

It remains unclear if such murder really took place because the managers at Tao Dan Park claim that such stories were just made up and never really happened.

There was, however, an official murder that took place in 1989. The story about this murder is different because the young man, named Tuan, was robbed and later killed. His motorbike was taken by the people who killed him. It was rather tragic because Tuan was just trying to sell his motorbike. He asked his friend, named Hung, to ask others if they want to purchase his motorbike. Hung then told his friend Thien about it but the latter suggested they just kill Tuan and take the motorbike. Hung agreed with Thien so they met Tuan at the park and killed him there.

Thien and Hung were arrested later a little after the investigation on the murder of Tuan was launched. Hung was seen by Tuan’s sister driving her brother’s motorbike and told the police about it. That’s the reason why Hung and Thien were arrested for the murder they did.

It’s unclear then whether the footsteps and apparitions seen at the Tao Dan Park belong to Tuan or the other young man allegedly murdered while out on a private time with his girlfriend.

Other locals claim that they never saw the ghost of a young man and believe that the story was just made up in order to attract tourists.
