History Of Moon River Brewing Company
The Moon River Brewing Company is not the first establishment in the lot where it stands now. Initially, it was the location of the former City Hotel. The hotel was built in 1821 and was the first hotel in Savannah, Georgia. Also, it was the home of the first even branch of the United States Post Office and the branch of the Bank of the United States.
In 1851, Peter Wiltberger bought the City Hotel. He renovated it and decided to put a living lion and lioness on display in order for the business to attract more guests. The hotel was finally closed in 1864. Years later, it was used as a lumber and coal warehouse and after the industry slowly died off, the building was used for general storage.
It also served as a hospital for the victims of the Yellow Fever and that is why there were a lot of deaths in the building. Most of the people who died were children and they died on the upper floors of the building.

By the 1960s, the space was renovated in order to house an office supply store. A hurricane closed the business in 1979 and the building became empty until the year 1995. In 1999, it was renovated to house the Moon River Brewing Company, which remains to be open to the public to this day.
