There are a lot of sites to visit here such as the Edmund Pettus Bridge, which is famous for civil rights history, the Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, and the national Voting Rights Museum.

Just like other places, Dallas County is visited by many because of the paranormal activities that take place at the Adams Grove Presbyterian Church. This church has been dubbed as one of the scariest and most haunted churches in the United States.

The History Of Adams Grove Presbyterian Church

The Adams Grover Presbyterian Church is very historic and is a Greek Revival style building located in the rural county. It was built sometime in 1853. The last congregation of the church was held in 1974. By 1986, it became part of the National Register of Historic Places and was subsequently privately owned.  It’s also popular because it is one of the pre-Civil War churches left standing in the county.

The Ghosts, Paranormal Activities At The Adams Grove Presbyterian Church

The Adams Grove Presbyterian Church is not only famous to locals about it being haunted but also to tourists. It has an attached cemetery so there’s an additional ghostly element in this location. Over the years, paranormal experts and locals have shared their experiences about this haunted place.

The first entity that many people have claimed seeing is that of a shadowy man that has fiery red eyes. He was reportedly spotted both in the church and in the cemetery. He is also known as the Red Eyed Shadow Man and is said to sneak up on visitors. A ghost hunter named Maxwell Hodges said that he was at the Adams Grove Presbyterian Church when he saw this entity. Allegedly, he felt something cold in his right arm and later felt a squeeze. When he turned around, he saw the Red Eyed Shadow Man right in front of him. Hodges said that because of that experience, he stopped trying to haunt for ghosts and that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder because of the encounter.

Another is the ghost of a Confederate soldier. This ghost is particularly seen by trespassers. Allegedly, the soldier would show up and order them to get off the property especially when they enter the cemetery. A former group said that they were one of those chased by the Confederate soldier. He allegedly had a rifle with him while chasing the group. Initially, the group thought he was a real person dressed up as a Confederate soldier but he allegedly vanished into thin air in front of the group.

Another resident group is said to belong to a former minister. Before thunderstorms, he could be seen on the porch of Adams Grove Presbyterian Church. People claim that he raises his arm in the air and appears to be either yelling or praying out loud. After he prays or yells, a loud thunder could be heard and the rain will already start pouring. It is unknown to this day who this mysterious minister is. Whenever it already starts raining, the minister would already vanish.

Locals have also claimed that they heard the sound of a baby crying inside the Adams Grove Presbyterian Church. If the locals would walk towards the church, the crying would stop. However, once they walk away, the loud cries of the baby could be beard again.

One visitor also shared that when he visited the Adams Grove Presbyterian Church with his wife sometime in 1982, they saw a flowing black cape that moved around the church. The cape was black with a red interior but no one was wearing it. Later, it rested on the ground and vanished.

A local claims that not only ghosts could be seen at the Adams Grove Presbyterian Church. Allegedly, presence of extraterrestrial existence could also be seen and felt there. The local named Terrance Carter said that on July 17, 1978, he saw seven yellow disc shaped objects at around 11 P.M. These objects were flying in a V formation. Later, they split up and five of them vanished. Two of the objects allegedly came close and a beam of light near the church could be seen. They then flew away at a very high speed.
